Areas of Competition
Interview
You will meet privately with the panel of 5 judges for an allotted time depending upon your age. You will enter the room, the judge’s chairperson will introduce you to the judges. You will be introduced and be asked questions about anything you supplied on your fact sheet or life events.
Once you have given this introduction, you will remain standing and the judges will then begin to ask you questions concerning your FACT Sheet and/or questions where you will give your opinion on certain matters. Remember there are NO WRONG ANSWERS. This is done very much in the style of a Press Conference Interview. Remember to show confidence and personality and be honest with your responses. Speak up and always show the “Real” you. Appropriate dress for this event is nice Sunday-style clothing or a business suit for teens.
The MODELING EVENTS will be presented on stage for the public and will consist of SPORTSWEAR and EVENING WEAR/PARTY DRESS for the Little Miss, Pre-Teen Miss, and Junior Miss. In each of these events, you will be given a modeling pattern at the rehearsal and you are judged on walk, posture, and confidence. In SPORTSWEAR, we ask that you choose clothing that best illustrates PHYSICAL FITNESS, such as aerobic wear, tennis clothes, dance leotard, shorts outfit, etc; something you look good wearing and feel good in. Feel free to carry props or something to compliment your sport.
For EVENING WEAR/PARTY DRESS, you should choose clothing that reflects your age. Choose a flattering dress that you feel good wearing and that looks good on a stage with lights. Either long or short dresses are acceptable for Little Miss and Pre-teen, long dresses are recommended for Junior Teen. Clunky or light up heels to not work well on stage, especially for younger ages, a flat shoe or something with a small heel is appropriate. Be sure to practice in your shoes!
The modeling events for the Teen Miss are slightly different than for the other age categories. The Teen Miss categories consist of LIFE-STYLE AND FITNESS AND EVENING WEAR. In LIFE-STYLE AND FITNESS, we ask that you choose clothing that best illustrates PHYSICAL FITNESS, such as aerobic wear, dancewear, or gymnastic wear. Swimsuits are reserved for the Miss North Dakota contestants, so we ask that our teens do not wear bikinis.
For EVENING WEAR, a long formal dress or a stylish formal pantsuit is recommended. Don’t feel you need to go buy an expensive gown, ask around to see if friends have prom dresses or pageant dresses they would allow you to borrow!
Time limit is 2 minutes. A sound system, microphone and a piano will be provided. The contestant must supply any special props needed. No other person may appear on stage with you. If you have a piano accompanist, that person can play from the theatre wings, just off stage. All music must be on a CD, with a back-up copy, just in case. Have each CD labeled with your name, the name of the song, and with only one music selection on it. Please do not ask for special lighting effects. Choose a costume or clothing that puts that special finishing touch to your talent selection and makes you shine on stage!
Questions may be taken from your private interview and will be asked again on stage by the emcee or judge.
